As the month of RABIUL AWWAL starts there will be controversy regarding celebrating Prophet SAW Birthday. The question is should we celebrate or not? Some say it is innovation(Bid'a) and some say it is right to celebrate.
Firstly, celebrating a birthday in Islam is not allowed, Celebrating a birthday in Islam is Bid' a, then how can you celebrate the birthday of the Prophet SAW?? When Nabi(saw) was alive he never ever celebrated his birthday. Or even he never order Sahaba to celebrate it. No Sahaba of tradition made a chapter for it.
We cannot invent or introduce a new way of worship. when people want to celebrate the birthday of Prophet SAW they say it is good. They even bring the verses from the Quran, and it's their interpretation, Here the point is that Companion of SAW didn't understand that verses in that way nor the prophet SAW understand it in that way, That's why they never celebrate his birthday. And from generations, it has not celebrated, it was not celebrated until some four hundred after the time of Prophet SAW that his Birthday began to celebrated in Egypt in the Fatimid Shiya Rules.
Some people will say what is wrong with celebrating, we are only remembering Prophet SAW, we are asking Allah to bless him, we will remember his life stories and these all are good things, These things are good things ALHAMDULLIAH but to combine them on that day every year you have now created something new in the religion AND THIS IS BID'A. (Ref. Bayan of Dr. Bilal Philips)
At the end of Surah Kahaf toward the end, Allah speaks about the biggest losers those who do lots of deeds and they think they are doing the good deeds but at the same time they have not follows the messenger's path and the way they have lost.
NEVER EVER THINK THAT THERE IS A SINGLE ACT OF WORSHIP THAT THE MESSENGER OF ALLAH FORGOT TO TEACH US. NEVER EVER THINK THERE IS ANY ACT OF WORSHIP THAT YOU MAY ENGAGE IN THAT WOULD BE BETTER THAN WHAT THE MESSENGER HAS COME WITH. AND NEVER EVER THINK THAT THE MESSENGER HAS NOT DONE THE DEEDS WHICH WERE ENOUGH TO FOLLOW SO NOW WE NEED TO COME UP WITH NEW DEED OR NEW ACT OF WORSHIP THAT WILL RESULT IN SPOILING OF YOUR DEEDS.
It has given in the Quran that;
“Follow what has been sent down unto you from your Lord, and follow not any awliyaa’ (protectors, helpers, etc.) besides Him. Little do you remember!” [al-A’raaf 7:3]
In some books, it is narrated that Prophet SAW was born on the 12th of Rabi-Ul-Awwal and in some 9th of Rabi-Ul-Awwal, There is variation in dates the date is not 100% confirmed, Which indicates that the prophet SAW nor his companion celebrated his birthday even after his death.
We never loved the prophet SAW as much as Abbu Bakkar Siddiqi(RA) or Umar(RA) or Ali(RA) or the rest of the companion they never celebrated his birthday so how can we celebrate?

Celebrating Milad un Nabi is not a part of Sunnah.(the sunnah of the Prophet SAW is not just what he did but also what he didn't do)

secondly, Exaggerates in glorifying Prophet Muhammed (PBUH)
The Prophet himself prohibited us from doing so. Prophet(SAW) said:
“Do not exaggerate in praising me.” [Sahih Hadith]
Thirdly, wasting money on lights and decorating your homes for no purpose, it has written in the Quran that:
And waste not by extravagance. Verily, He (Allah) likes not Al-Musrifin (those who waste by extravagance).” Ref. Tafsir by Imam Ibn Kathir.
fourthly, Celebrating Milad un Nabi is an imitation of Jews and Christians, Prophet SAW said:
“Whoever imitates a people becomes one of them.” [Abu Dawood]

Reasons for why ARABS don't celebrate it whereas South Asians Muslims celebrate.
From the very beginning, historians and writers of Seerah have differed on the date of birth of Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), there is also a difference of opinion on the “year of birth”. But it is confirmed that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was born in the month of Rabi-Ul-Awwal.
Whereas, we know for sure is that day of his death was ‘Monday’, as for the date we have different narrations.
