As smoking takes you to many diseases and there is a direct link between smoking and lung cancer. And you may not have any idea that it slowly starts killing you, one-third of all cancer deaths are a direct result of cigarette smoking. Smoking is a major cause of death.
Allah(SWT) says in surah (Nisaa':29): "And do not kill yourselves. Allah is the most merciful to you."
The Prophet(SAW) said: "There is no harm or causing of harm(In Islam)."
The Prophet(SAW) said: "A person will not be able to move on the day of judgment until he is asked about...his body as to what he engaged it in."

Every intoxication is haram. So basically you are spending money on the thing that can take your life.
Allah(SWT) says in surah (Baqarah 2:195): "Make not your own hands contribute to your destruction.."
The holy prophet (SAW) has forbidden everything that brings about intoxication and creates disturbance (Sunan Abi Dawood, vol.3, no 3686).
'Anything that causes intoxication when consumed in a high quantity is also haram in a small quantity.' (Sunan Abi Dawood, vol.3, no 3681)

The money that spent on cigarettes is used in buying a harmful thing and is therefore an extravagance. A smoker spends money to buy a trouble for himself and also trouble others by the smoke he releases.
Allah(SWT) says in surah(Israa' 17:26-27): "..and do not be extravagant wasters. Those who are extravagant are kinsmen of Satan."
The Prophet(SAW) said: "A person will not be able to move on the day of judgment until he is asked about...what he owned as to how he spent it."
Prophet(PBUH) said: Allah has prohibited you from wasting money (Bukhari)

The holy prophet(SAW) has said: Allah(SWT) has said: Taking an oath on my honor! my slave who drinks even a sip of alcohol, I will make him drink pus equal to the same amount and the slave who refrain from it out of fear for me, I will make him drink from Haud-e-Qudus. (Al-Musnad Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal, vol.8, no 22281)

Islam forbids everything that is harmful because the prophet(PBUH) said: "There should be no harming or reciprocating harm." some foods are good and beneficial and others are bad and harmful, so basically it should be in us to choose what is worth to us.
smoking also goes against the saying of the prophet(SAW): "your body has a right on you."

considering all the above we can conclude that smoking is an evil act, And yes by all these we can say that smoking is haram.

smoking is a kind of intoxication that moves you away from Allah. It leads you to do an evil activity, it attracts you to join Satan company and all these are haram.
May Allah give us Hidayat to follow the footsteps of Prophet(SAW).
